SACRAMENTO, Calif. — April 24, 2019 — e.Republic Chief Innovation Officer Dustin Haisler has been named one of nine American Zhi-Xing China Eisenhower Fellows for 2019. The five-year-old Zhi-Xing program immerses American leaders in Chinese culture to promote understanding between the people of the two nations.
The 2019 Fellows represent a diverse group of leaders from across the United States and across a broad range of fields, according to the program, including emerging technologies in smart cities, sustainable-development, renewable energy, and diversity and inclusion.
“I’m deeply honored for the opportunity to start my journey as an Eisenhower Fellow, and I look forward to advancing international understanding and collaboration around the government technology and Smart Cities ecosystem,” said Haisler, who helps lead product development and strategic direction for e.Republic, publisher of Governing and Government Technology magazines.
Haisler and the other Zhi-Xing China Eisenhower Fellows will spend a month in China to participate in intensive cultural immersion, group sessions with Chinese and U.S. experts, and individually-tailored meetings in four to six Chinese cities.
“This year’s Zhi-Xing Fellows are
forward-thinking innovators, addressing some of the most important issues of
our times. We’re pleased to welcome them into the global network of Eisenhower
Fellows,” said Dr. Robert M. Gates, chairman of Eisenhower Fellowships.
Before joining e.Republic in 2014, Haisler was chief information officer and assistant city manager for Manor, Texas, where he helped launch Manor Labs, a ground-breaking government innovation program which received global recognition as a new model for engaging citizens and implementing their ideas. As government innovation director for a private software firm, Haisler also helped design and deploy innovation programs for New York City and Bogota, Columbia.
Eisenhower Fellows commit to lifelong engagement with the organization and its nearly 1,600 active Fellows around the world.
