New York State IT Leader of the Year, IT Leadership Hall of Fame and Outstanding IT Manager Awards announced in Albany today.
Albany, NY — April 21, 2016 – New York State CIO Margaret Miller awarded Steven Spalten the 2016 New York State (NYS) IT Leader of the Year Award during the New York IT Leadership Academy today. Spalten is the director of end user services for the NYS Office of Information Technology Services.
Spalten was recognized for his leadership style and his accomplishments with the E-mail Consolidation Project, a transformational initiative for New York State. The Email Consolidation Project created a unified platform for delivery of both internal and external e-mail and other digital communication services by all state agencies.
“Steve is laser-focused on exceeding customer expectations and believes that communication is a critical step in meeting that objective,” said Miller. “He leads by example, he encourages staff to learn new concepts and find better solutions and he creates a collaborative environment where all ideas are welcome. Last but not least, he has the ability to motivate people to succeed.”
The IT Leader of the Year Award recognizes individuals for exemplary leadership, strategic vision, innovation and collaboration. As the 2016 New York State IT Leader of the Year, Spalten will be featured in Public CIO magazine.
Two other New York State IT leaders – MaryAnne Barry, director of IT Services at the NYS Office of the State Comptroller and Adam Gigandet, deputy CIO at the NYS Office of Information Technology Services – were inducted into the NYS IT Leadership Hall of Fame during today’s event. The NYS IT Leadership Hall of Fame was established in 2013 to recognize individuals who have devoted their careers to improving New York state and local information technology.
